London has always been a great place to be Irish with a lot of fun and friendship and a good welcome from Londoners in general . A good place to work and earn a few bob then return home. I feel very sorry though for those that did loose the run of themselves and ended up left behind. Often the money they sent back home was what kept their extended families going in the fifties and sixties. Their pals have now long returned to Ireland or married and settled down in the suburbs. It's a lonely way to end up.

A jolly good read as per usual! One little fact which you may like to know (or actually I may have read on this blog in which case please excuse me, but be proud that it has entered into my pop facts! of the year...albeit lacking a little in accurate detail)<br/> At one point there were lots of immigrants from all over Britain working in Camden on the burgeoning railways, and being somewhat tribal, poor and fond of the drink, they all liked to fight like billeyo. To solve this problem they opened up pubs for each country's workers - The Edinburgh Castle for the Scottish, the Dublin Castle for the Irish and the Windsor Castle for the English. I think. Not sure what the welsh did! Ax
