Really ? Mr Archer (only a Mr back then) only paid £100k for the place ? My failing memory seems to recall a Daily Mail article around the time of Kane and Abel suggesting he paid £400k, a kings ransom at the time. Guess we’ll never know. See the prices today, you need £2.60 million for a second floor apartment. How much for the penthouse(s) ( is there more than one ??) now ? Lord Archer, if you’re reading this perhaps you’d settle the question ? Be a sport…..

I once had cause to visit Archer in his penthouse and it is much as described. He’s clearly v proud of the view – he turned the lights off to show it to best effect and boasted that he paid £100k for the place at a time when all his friends were living in Chelsea and couldn’t understand why anyone wd want to live in what was then an industrial wasteland, south of the river.

He has kept John Barry’s old number, the last three digits of which are 007!
