The Lennon / Epstein story is a possibility. It was also mentioned in Albert Goldman’s 1988 book. Many ‘straight’ men who are confident in their sexuality have been known to dabble with a gay friend (certainly in my experience!) while not exactly identifying as gay or even bisexual.
