Interesting stuff. Soho in the 1960s when I first visited was a tea party at The Ritz compared to what kids put on FB nowadays.
But what kudos to return to our Frozen North homeland after a week in London and boast that we'd walked around Soho.
As for the cops - well, I met many. Crims as well. Often or not it was difficult to distinguish. Unless they were in uniform of course. Robert Mark was an exception, I think, as was his protogee John Stalker.

I met George Fenwick in the late 1960's early seventies. In those days i was
a heavy alcoholic drinker and my lifestyle was pretty bad. I got in a few very
minor scrapes with the law which all changed for the better when I stopped drinking and smoking and hellraising. Looking back to the times i met George I must say he was man of compassion and yes a few mistakes he made but in my view very minor. Just look at Tony Blair, George W Bush, both war criminals, illegal wars, hell awaits them. Dennis McShane, Huhne,
Archer, the list is endless of corrupt politicans, it was forever thus and will continue as long as the human race exists. However back to George, he was a good honest man, wish there were more about like him. Maybe George is still alive, hope he is.

My Grandfather wasn't doing anything which you don't see emblazoned prolifically across the internet and other visual mediums today. The only exception was that the general populas of the day were told that this was moral indecency as was anything attached to nudity or remotely sexual.

Nothing had changed since the days of the scandal surrounding Lady Chatterly's Lover..look at the furore which surrounded that... Jimmy just made a lot of money making alot of people happy, and when it all went wrong, those so called 'men of the law' were served up with nothing that they didn't deserve...

The porn in Soho was wrong. Lennon's drawings are filth; Oz was filth. If people want to produce it illicitly ok, but let's not dignify this degrading rubbish as "freedom of expression", it's just filth.
