Good article and totally agree about Edinburgh Gate (as I think it’s called) – is it even actually a public road? If so, why has it got gates? Anyway, I’m getting off the point of the article somewhat! Thanks for the read.

Thank you for another fascinating post filled as usual with erudition,judgement and humanity. Blake,Boty, Boshier et al seem touchingly naive and very much rooted in a painterly tradition. I wonder what they make of their cultural descendants.

Great piece. Some of Boty’s work – inc “Celia Birtwell & some of her admirers” – is in the Pop Art show in the new Christie’s space on New Bond St. Ken Russell’s “Pop goes the easel” is also showing there.
