I agree with Albert, there. (saw you in Hyde Park with Heads, Hands and Feet Summer 71'..I must have been all of 18) Great stuff. I'm researching a bit about the street for my own memoir at the moment. I practically lived at 22 Denmark Street between Sept '86 and April '88. I was there with my own band Cleaners From Venus. I was also helping out Captain Sensible with his album. I slept under the mixing desk. He slept under the grand piano during those weeks when we were working around the clock. It was in a fine tradition. Oddly enough, in 1986, before Steve Hoyland the maintenance engineer converted the place from ( I think) an 8 track to a 24 track, the last person to do a session down there was Ian Stewart from the Stones. He died of a heart attack very shortly afterwards
The history of the street is even stranger. It was generally thought to be the place where the 1665 plague took grip. Also, go and look at one of Hogarth's engravings. It's one of a set of four called The Four Times of Day.
In the Noon engraving is pretty much a sketch of the immediate area. St Giles in the close background, and Hog Lane (later Charing Cross Road). I'll let you know when I post all this stuff up on my site.

My friend, David, and I used to go to the Flamingo. That was where the Jazz Couriers played, co-led by Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott, before Ronnie opened his own place. We also saw Tony Kinsey(drums), Bill LeSage(vibes) and Joe Harriot(baritone sax).
We also went to the 2 I's coffee bar.

I believe the immigration officer was Ken Human who retired several years ago as a chief immigration at Terminal 1, Heathrow. I wonder if there are any papers in the National Archives.

I can remember my parents talking about this man and the 'Germany calling' broadcasts. A relative could mimic his tone and inflections and was really quite good at it. My Dad went around following Edward Mosely and his brown Shirts - to cause as much disruption as he could.. any open air meeting was 'fair game' but it was when he disrupted meetings held in halls and places that he got arrested .. nearly always patted on the back and sent off but sometimes charged.

What a wonderful story-- straight out of a comic book. To imagine a villain actually was possessed of a scar like his... too good to be true!

I remembered the magazine, and checked with my sister, it was called "Honey". Plenty about it on tinternet, but I couldn't find anything about Adam writing for it.
I do remember it tho, as I remembered his magazine writing when I first found the books.
